Recently, Jia Mingdi, general manager of SAIC Volkswagen Sales Co., Ltd., in a media interview, responded positively for the first time to questions about the results of the Passat C-IASI test at the end of 2019.Jia Mingdi said that the proportion of 25% offset collisions accounted for only 1% of the case statistics of the in-depth investigation of China ’s traffic accidents, while Passat had full marks in other auxiliary safety indexes, but no one mentioned it. The collision event is magnified.
C-IASI (China Insurance Automobile Safety Index) was born in 2018, and the benchmark is the American Highway Safety Insurance Association (IIHS), so it is called the Chinese version of IIHS, whose standards are very strict.
The crash test results of the 2019 SAIC Volkswagen Passat 280TSI business version released at the end of 2019 showed that Passat’s positive 25% offset crash was rated as “poor”, which had a great impact on Passat’s sales, and sales in the first quarter of this year fell sharply. According to statistics from the 515 car sales rankings, in January 2020, Volkswagen Passat ranked 14th with a score of 13,601 vehicles. In December 2019, Volkswagen Passat ranked 8th in the car sales list with a score of 26014.
In February 2020, Volkswagen Passat’s monthly sales were only 875 units, plunging 35 places. However, sales of Passat rebounded significantly in April. Volkswagen Passat sales rose from 5,274 in March (ranked 27th) to 15,805, and rose to 11th in the car sales ranking.
After the C-IASI crash test, Passat applied for the C-NCAP test and achieved a five-star crash result. In view of this, Passat submitted another application for crash test to China Insurance Research Institute. Due to the schedule, there is still a period of time to wait for results, GPLP will continue to follow.
